COOL GLOBES: HOT IDEAS FOR A COOLER PLANET
Cool Globes is a public art exhibition designed to raise awareness of solutions to climate change. Cool Globes premiered in Chicago in 2007 and has since been traveling the world, showcasing “public art with a purpose” in 23 cities, 4 continents, and translated into 9 languages. Each globe weighs 2100 lbs, and is 5’ diameter and 7’ high. The globes are often displayed 10 –15 ft apart to allow visitors to walk fully around each globe. Each globe has been artistically designed to showcase a solution to climate change, making the statement that—while the problem is large—the solutions are right here in front of us. The globes have been designed by both well-known artists, school children, and architects, all illustrating positive steps we can take in the fight against climate change.
